Planting & Care

Planting Instructions: The Emerald Green Thuja Tree is one of the most low-maintenance varieties available, but it’s important to keep the below planting instructions in mind.

First, choose an area in your landscape with at least 4 to 8 hours of sunlight per day for your Thuja, along with well-drained soil. After selecting the location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your tree’s root ball. Once you’ve placed your Emerald Green, back fill its soil, tamp down the soil to avoid air pockets and lastly, water to help establish its roots.

Watering: The Thuja is drought tolerant but prefers consistent moisture for best results. Water your tree deeply and regularly during the first full growing season (approximately one thorough watering each week). It’s also helpful to mulch around the root zone – this helps shield the tree against drying winds.

But if you’re not sure when to water your Emerald Green, simply check the surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If the soil is dry in this area, it’s time to water.

Fertilizing: Fertilize your tree before new growth begins with a well-balanced fertilizer, preferably during the spring season.

Pruning: Pruning is unnecessary, but if you’re looking for a specific shape, simply prune as needed during spring.
