Hardy, Fast Growth + Pop of Blue-Green Color

Why Blues Little Bluestem Grass?

Blue-green foliage meets a dense, clumping habit, making the Blues Little Bluestem the perfect ornamental for elevating your landscape.

The Bluestem lives up to its name, delivering unmatched color and floral spikes with fluffy seed heads that last until fall. This unique ornamental grass puts on a show, greeting guests and neighbors with long-lasting color that's second to none.

Dazzling bronze-orange hues emerge in the fall for months of visual interest. From groundcover to mass plantings in borders to potted focal points and beyond, the Bluestem takes your garden up a notch. Even better is that it handles poor soil and extreme heat, bitter cold, and arid drought conditions like a champ, giving you reliable color without muss or fuss.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Bluestem in an area with full sun (about 6 hours of sunlight daily) and well-drained soil. Once you've chosen your location, dig a hole that's large enough to accommodate your plant's root ball, place your plant, backfill the soil and water to settle the roots.

You can also plant your grass in a pot. If you choose to do so, select a container that's about twice as large as your plant's shipped container (and ensure it has drainage holes), use organic soil mix, place your plant, and fill the pot with soil, leaving about 2 inches free at the top. Finally, water your newly-potted plant to settle the soil.

2. Watering: When the top of the soil feels dry down to about 2 or 3 inches, water your Bluestem.

Other than regular watering if your area does not receive consistent rainfall, Bluestem Grass requires very little additional maintenance.
